Creating a Virtual Library
This year I will have 5th graders in my reading group. Every year it’s a different level so I seem to be always starting anew. Not horrible for someone who enjoys change and a challenge but often time consuming. I have been thinking about starting a virtual library with books that my students will create and publish. I went through my Delicious bookmarks and pulled together several...
FlickrPoet
Today I discovered FlickrPoet while reading the Tech:-)Happy blog. According to the Tech:-)Happy blog “FlickrPoet allows users to enter a poem and then click “show story” and the site pulls photos from Flickr and places them with all the words in the poem.” Students would then use Jing to do a screencapture of their work to put it on our poetry website. Last year was my first year...

Five ways I will use Jing in the classroom
Making tutorials for my classes so that I can walk around the room and be accessible to the students during the presentation. This is especially great if you are presenting the same information 10 times a week. Also students can view the presentation at home because I can post it on my website.
Adding screenshots to tutorials for my students.
Many sites let you create something but you...
Boxee
Today I discovered Boxee. Boxee is a FREE application designed to gather TV, video, and audio feeds from around the web, making them accessible in a unified, fullscreen interface. You can access all types of media from one location…Youtube, CNN, Pandora, Flickr, Hulu, any vlogs or podcasts that you subscribe to and much more. You can also view Netflix videos if you have a Netflix account....

“Altered Art” slideshow using free version of Kizoa
Kizoa
Today I learned about Kizoa. It’s a slideshow and photo editor that I think my students would enjoy. It’s fun, fairly simple to use and you can do a lot with it…even just using the free version. I like the fact that you can import a student’s art work and do some creative manipulations with it. Then you can turn that into a slideshow. It’s fun to use and the...

Students Motivating Students
Today I found this great website “Learn it in Five” that has many great “how to” technology videos/tutorials for the classroom teacher that are 5 minutes or less. I watched one on the use of Automotivator a program that creates motivational posters. This is a very simple tool to use and would be great for younger kids. An idea for this tool is for each student to...
Something to give back
I really enjoy sharing what I have learned and of course learning from others. But I want to give back in a more concrete way. I’ve been thinking about making things that other teachers might use, posters etc. Once I figure out how to post my creations I will make a tutorial on how to access them. Hopefully it will be successful and the staff at my school can access them too.
Good...
Google Images
Love-love-love the new interface for Google images. I saw Marissa Mayers (Google’s first female engineer) on Squakbox this morning, talking about Google images new interface so I had to check it out. Wow! This is fantastic. 1000 images at a time. This will be great for educators. No more flipping through pages and pages of photos (and waiting for them to load). Also refining your...
Who knew I would love being a life-long learner?
Every night before I go to sleep I think about what I have learned that day and how I can use it with my classes or in my life. I’m so amazed to find that a day does not go by when I have not learned something new. Ahh…but when I wake up in the morning it’s sometimes a different story. Where have all my great ideas gone? I’m also amazed that I don’t always...
