clp.ly

clp.ly (a find from Larry Ferlazzo) is so easy to use.  clp.ly enables users to create clickable visual clips of web content.  It also allows you to repost them in blogs, websites and forums.  You can also add a sticky note if you wish.  Also the screenshot is an active link to the page.

I will use this to share links with my students on our classroom website.

Below is an example I made to try it out. Super, super easy!

Make your own "Liquid Watercolors" → smcsart.blogspot.com

This is such a great idea posted by Cathy Espinosa-Payne.  She cuts up the insides of old dried out markers, adds water, and shazam…creates her own concentrated, liquid watercolors.  I can’t wait to try this!

How to Build Your Own Document Camera → teachertube.com

My next project!  Fortunately I already have the projector to go along with it.

Click on the picture for video tutorial so you can make one too.

From Wikipedia:  “Document cameras, also known as image presenters, visual presenters, digital visualizers, digital overheads, and docucams, are real-time image capture devices for displaying an object to a large audience. Like an opaque projector, a document camera is able to magnify and project the images of actual, three-dimensional objects, as well as transparencies. They are, in essence, high-resolution web cams, mounted on arms so as to facilitate their placement over a page. This allows a teacher, lecturer or presenter to write on a sheet of paper or to display a two or three-dimensional object while the audience watches.”

You may be saying “I have a document camera, now what do I do with it?”

Check out this list and you’ll get your answer!

Even though I am the art teacher at my school I also teach reading 90 minutes a day.  I have a new group every year.  This year’s reading group consists of 2nd graders who are well below grade level (pre-K).  They love to see what they are doing on the big screen.  I will plan activities that they can do in view of the document camera.  They are tired of looking at the same type of workbook pages (mostly phonics) year after year.  Hopefully they will enjoy the new technology and progress in my reading group.

“I have believed for a long time that classroom publishing is one of the most effective ways to get students engaged with the written word and take ownership over their learning. But I’ve always had it in the back of my mind that the process was inevitably complicated. This week, first-graders showed me just how effective the process can be, no matter how simple the project. – Charity Thompson” —It’s that simple « Classroom Publishing

“Tools, tools, tools. Pick 1 or 2. (And this is advice for beyond the first year too.) You are going to hear about the latest and the greatest tools. And they are going to be changing and changing fast. Focus on 1 or 2 and use them, extensively, until their use is seamless, either in your classroom or for your own professional development. Then when you feel comfortable, add something. But always remember, tools are just that. It is what we are creating or using the tool for that is much more important.” —
