National Geographic and the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis have come together to produce an extremely nice site to learn about maps, Maps: Tools for Adventure. Their interactive map adventures (games) are beautiful, life-like and include great detail. This experience lets the student actually see how maps are used in a variety of situations, such as on Mars, in the ocean, in a pyramid etc. and demonstrates how they are helpful to us in many more ways than are typical. I also like the section on explorers and how they use maps. Very informative.
This is a fun, interactive, educational site teaching about maps as important tools in exploration as well as how they can expand our thinking about the world. I highly recommend giving this site a try
