Students can become “citizen scientists” by joining Project Squirrel from the Nature Museum located in my hometown of Chicago.
From the site: “No matter where you live, city or suburb, from the Midwest to the East Coast, Canada to California, whether squirrels live in your neighborhood or not, you are encouraged to become a squirrel monitor. You can submit as many observations from as many places as you like. Anyone of any age can participate. Make it a classroom project, compare notes with classes in other states if you like, get your family involved—everyone can observe nature. ”
This is a neat project that students of all grade levels can participate in and it can be done any time of year.
I have added Project Squirrel to my Sensational Science Sites LiveBinder.
