Neat collection! Some of these I think the kids will get a kick out of. Could be used for listening skills, quite time, etc. Many of these are serials.

EFL Classroom 2.0 has a super compilation of “Stories for the Classroom”.
The stories contain audio, text, and pictures. Some are even animated. They play full screen and are very student friendly. All of them would be great for reading/listening centers. Kids will love these stories and want to read them over and over again.
The stories are categorized by level as well as some genres.

I just love Story Bee. Superb stories told by actual storytellers.
#elemchat #spedchat #storytellers
I just listened to two stories while cleaning out a “junk” drawer. One made me laugh, the other brought tears to my eyes. I’ve used this with students many times.

A few ideas on how to use Story Bee.
These are great to use with students when there are a few unplanned minutes available.
Perfect to listen to when you want students to calm/quiet down a bit and relax.
Fun to listen to while creating art.
Perfect for a listening center.
Leave this site for a substitute…they’ll appreciate it!
Works great for ages 4-18…yes even high schoolers.

Turn your students into decoding detectives for World Braille Day, January 4th!
#elemchat #spedchat #decoding #braille
The American Foundation for the Blind has a nice kids section, Braille Bug, where they can learn about braille through games/puzzles.
Lots of cool decoding activities.
Access the Braille Bug overview for teachers here. Lots of interesting info. I didn’t know that braille was developed by Louis Braille when he was only 15 years old, and that the whole alphabet is based on only six dots.
Educational Ideas…
I thought it would be neat to print out the entire alphabet and create your own braille cards for the classroom. Students could make raised glue dots on each of the cards with white glue.
Write spelling words in braille for word work.
Make a welcome sign for the classroom in braille with circles cut from sand paper.
Students can hide an object in the classroom and write a clue or two in braille for others to find it.
More sites on Braille!

Visit the Helen Keller Kids Museum online
Helen Keller was an inspiration to me as a child. In fact her story still inspires me. It is absolute proof that everyone can learn. I believe her story is a big factor in why I went into teaching and special education in particular. I’m so happy to see her museum online.

1001 Stories from The Story Museum features a great collection of inspirational/folk tales from around the world.
#elemchat #spedchat #audiostories #StoryMuseum #listeningskills
The stories include audio and text that could be printed out for each student as they listen. Many of the stories also include printable story maps. You can search by theme, age of listener, or country of origin. Great for  listening center or a quiet time in the classroom.
Not that I’m counting but there are only 100+ stories available that I could see. Not 1001…nonetheless great site. Hopefully more are coming because students will really enjoy these stories.

Story Bee lets you “listen to professional storytellers from across the country as they spin their wonderful tales. Just click on your age group, and you’ll find a list of story titles. Click on any title, and the story will play.”
 #elemchat #spedchat #literacy #audiostories #storytelling
“It’s all free, thanks to the generous storytellers who want to share the spirit and joy of storytelling with you. So sit back, get comfortable, and get ready to go around the world, through time, inside the heart, and above the clouds.”
***I used this last year and my students really liked listening to the stories while they worked on their art projects. I highly recommend Story Bee! Love that it covers ages 4 to 18. Something for everyone. Teachers will enjoy the stories too. I certainly did.
