FANTABULOUS!!! Content Trailers
#elemchat #spedchat #4thchat #5thchat #1stchat #scichat  #sscghat
Hook your students with these! Amazing collection of “Content Trailers” for a variety of grades and subjects. Specials will love these too!
Content Trailers are “ short, 2- to 3-minute, media-rich experiences from which a point of inquiry can begin.  Providing students with the images and sounds that can be attached to the textual information that they will be exploring can provide a profound shift in the way learning is engaged. Content Trailers can be one tool to help the process of inquiry begin.”
Think of them as short (spectacular) videos to introduce a subject.
I watched a few and was extremely impressed. The quality of the trailers was superb. Music was varied and Images were top notch. Fantastic tools to hook students into lessons.
Trailers are organized by Grade (K-12), as well as the subjects listed below.

I checked out the one for U.S. Presidents and was shocked to see a content trailer for every single president.
So of course I added it to  U.S. Presidents for Kids
So I moved on to the poetry section and added that one to  Kool Kids Write Poetry.
Places Around the World is now included in  Countries for Kids.
I don’t mean to gush but “Content Trailers” are AWESOME!  I have never seen a collection like this. Created by WBR Technology Dept.

Create online books with Scribble Press! Free and easy.
#literacy #writing
I just checked out Scribble Press and was so delighted. It’s a great publisher that is perfect for kids.
The easy to use interface allows you to use your own images (students artwork!) or use a variety of stickers they provide. Students need to type in their text in a text box that is clearly defined for each page. Text can be copied and pasted from another source also.
Teachers can create group accounts so students can share books with each other. How nice is that.
There is also an equally nice iPad version.
No registration required to create a book. Final product can be viewed online, downloaded as a pdf and printed or purchased as a hard cover book.

Highlights for Kids has revamped itself and it’s even better!
#edtech #1stchat #2ndchat #3rdchat #4thchat #literacy
via A Few Weeks Shy of the Real World
Four main features include: Play it, Make it, Read it, and Share it. All are tops! Lots of audio and text included. Some are animated.
Awesome poems and stories kids will enjoy. They have some really top notch games too. I love the Super Story Twister.
I also thought the joke section was quite cool featuring kids telling the jokes.

Batalugu - Great digital storytelling publisher!
#edtech #literacy
Batalugu  is a wonderful site for creating books online. They provide colorful and fun graphics/backgrounds but you can also upload your own.   Size and color of font is customizable too. Books can be published in private or public mode and shared by url or bookshelf. Create as many books as you want.
Easy to use interface makes it possible for students to create their own books. Their short tutorial will come in handy. (screenshot below)

I was able to create a book using my own clip art! screenshot above
I think it would be fun to take photos of your students/classroom and create a book around them. You can add to it at any time.
You can also use Batalugu for group writing. Start with an interesting story starter and have each student add a page to the story. It will be a class favorite when it’s done.
Batalugu also provides a bookshelf where you can keep all of your books. Students can choose a book from the shelf to read at any time.

Boom Writer  takes a 21st Century approach to teaching writing.
#edtech #literacy
New addition to Write On! 4 Kids Livebinder
This looks like a great creative writing tool. You can register your class for free and create your own class/school competitions. Students write chapters based on a story starter you provide and the class votes on which one to add to the book. I love that the authors of the chapters are anonymous during the voting process.
Free and ($39) premium accounts are available.
From BoomWriter: “BoomWriter is a supremely engaging creative writing website that has students reading, writing and assessing content in ways they’ve never done before!”
The teacher selects or produces his or her own story start, and the students let their imagination and writing skills take over.
One chapter at a time, the students write, read, and then vote on the submissions they like the most. The winning chapter is then added to the story and the process continues.
The teacher determines the total number of chapters to be completed, and when the competition is over a new book is ready to be published.
Completed books can be purchase if you wish.
