FANTABULOUS!!! Content Trailers
#elemchat #spedchat #4thchat #5thchat #1stchat #scichat  #sscghat
Hook your students with these! Amazing collection of “Content Trailers” for a variety of grades and subjects. Specials will love these too!
Content Trailers are “ short, 2- to 3-minute, media-rich experiences from which a point of inquiry can begin.  Providing students with the images and sounds that can be attached to the textual information that they will be exploring can provide a profound shift in the way learning is engaged. Content Trailers can be one tool to help the process of inquiry begin.”
Think of them as short (spectacular) videos to introduce a subject.
I watched a few and was extremely impressed. The quality of the trailers was superb. Music was varied and Images were top notch. Fantastic tools to hook students into lessons.
Trailers are organized by Grade (K-12), as well as the subjects listed below.

I checked out the one for U.S. Presidents and was shocked to see a content trailer for every single president.
So of course I added it to  U.S. Presidents for Kids
So I moved on to the poetry section and added that one to  Kool Kids Write Poetry.
Places Around the World is now included in  Countries for Kids.
I don’t mean to gush but “Content Trailers” are AWESOME!  I have never seen a collection like this. Created by WBR Technology Dept.

Pretty original!
Computer Songs and Poems
(Song and poem parodies w/computer related subjects.)
#edtech #musicchat #elemchat #spedchat
I think computer/tech teachers will love these!
***Many (most) of these are oldies but I think they can be easily updated. I bet students (and teachers) would have a lot of fun creating their own. They could also create the music or beat to go along with them. Lots of awesome resources to create music online in the binder below. Could be a cool poetry/music lesson.

Double the Fun with Twist Our Words and Twist Our Music! Students must be 16 to send their creation but any age can use the websites.
#elemchat #spedchat #literacy #music
Twist our words is a really cool way for students to practice making complete sentences. Provide by Channel 4 (UK) students select words to create a sentence. They can even add their own words. Many sounds and expressions are also available to choose from. TV show performers are then combined to read the sentence. Neat!
Educational Application: I thought one educational game that would be fun is “Sentence? or Fragment?”. Students could take turns putting in sentences or sentence fragments and the other students would have to guess what it is. Could be done in teams where students try to fool each other.
Included in Write On! for Kids
Twist our Music allows students to create music by combining musical characters. Many musician to choose from. Tempo can also be adjusted.

LiveBinder Update - Kids Make Music Online
#elemchat #spedchat #music
100+ sites where kids can make music online. Lots of nice sites to choose from. A variety of instruments included as well as sites for composing your own songs/raps.
We have a new music teacher at my school this year. We haven’t had one for several years. The kids are super excited and this makes me very happy too. Students need outlets to express themselves. Too many cuts in this area is so sad.

Using Music in the Elementary Classroom (Warning: It May Get Loud)

world-shaker:

Music is Standard in My Classroom

It’s not a special event or an activity. My students anticipate, expect, and even demand music everyday. And, in the words of Gene Simmons, they want it “Loud, I wanna’ hear it loud, right between the eyes.” They get what they want, for sure. But I do have to say that from the beginning of my classroom musical revelation, the music has been for me just as much as it’s been for the kids.

So, I don’t play “kid” music all of the time. Yes, there are times when it’s needed, but most of the time I’m exposing my students to “kid-friendly adult music.” Kids love the tunes I play for two reasons: 1) They know they’re not “kiddie” songs because they don’t feature a cheesy organ or steel drum. 2) They notice that I love the songs, too.

When I was a kid, I wanted to spit blood and breathe fire. Silly, I know. But then I wanted to play guitar. Then I joined a band. Now I’m using music to inspire others and connect with students. Sharing is the new teaching. Let’s share.

I really loved this. Please click through. There are even some great song and album suggestions.

I’ve shared Activity TV in the past but thought I would share it again because my students have been using it this week to create origami frogs and airplanes.
They are loving the activities (tutorials), which they can stop and rewind to understand a tricky fold. We are using a projector with our computer so the tutorial is nice and large and we do not move on until everyone has the fold. Students are helping one another and they are all enjoying these lessons. The kids want to make these at home to so I put links to the projects on our blog: The Wonderful World of Near North.
I’m looking forward to doing some of Activity TV’s science projects as well as the magic tricks. This is a great site for helping kids learn to follow directions step by step as well as working to help each other.
There are 17 categories to choose with many activities in each category. Categories include paper airplanes, origami, crafts, puppets, juggling, cartooning, magic, jewelry, cheerleading, family gifts, room projects, music, dance, trivia, science, crafts, and puppets.

Excellent Student Reward! Button Beats is by far my students most favorite site for creating music, especially raps. They love to freestyle (create their own on the spot) which I have been learning is fantastic for the brain. Supposedly its better than rapping something which they have memorized. Either way they love it.
Great free time reward for my students. They really work hard for this one. If you have a microphone you can also record. The kids also use the webcam and watch themselves rap.
Ever see 4 (EBD) eighth graders huddle close together with one computer, working cooperatively? It can happen…I see it every Friday!
This is included in my Kids Make Music LiveBinder.
*Make sure you check out all of this collection through the “jump menu” (drop down menu). It’s an incredible resource.

Have you tried 3x3Links before?
From the site: 3x3Links enhances the speed-dial experience known from Opera, Chrome and the Firefox extension by allowing you to take your start page with you, organize it your way and to use high-speed keyboard shortcuts.

As a bonus, it can store up to 729 links by using folders, display website logos instead of thumbnails, and performs really fast by using the new HTML5 LocalCache feature.

I just created one called Do It! Online for Kids.  I think 3x3Links is a neat way to put links together that students can access easily. It was easy to get the hang of how to put it together after creating a category or two.
DoIt! Online for Kids includes nine online activities for each category. I chose sites that help develop creativity in many genres and that no registration would be needed. The sites can easily be accessed at home as well as school. I may change sites from time to time especially in Holiday It!
The categories are…
Draw and Paint It!
Build It!
Comics It!
Poetry It!
Read It!
Holiday It!
Music It!
Write It!
Color It!
***If you try 3x3Links let me know how it worked for you and share what you created by clicking here.

Mighty Books has many free online books that are very charming and really entertaining. The books have both audio and text. I just listened to How Mona Lisa Got her Smile and know students would really enjoy it. They have several really nice books that are art and music related as well as other subjects too.

Screenshot
To access their “hundreds” of books the description rate is $24.95 per classroom. This site would help make a fantastic listening/reading center. If the quality of the books is the same as the free ones I definitely think it is more than worth the price.
Check it out and see what you think.
Another great find via @marynabadenhors. If you don’t follow her on twitter you should. She always finds and shares the best resources.
