Design Squad Nation (another from PBS) is a fantastic site where kids can design their own inventions through drawings they can create on the site. They can also upload pictures or prototypes. Students can also view inventions of others. Really fun and interesting to look at.

They also have two neat interactives, Fidgit and String Thing.
DESIGNiT, BUILDiT, FIDGiT is an exciting puzzle game where you solve challenges and save tiny creatures called Fidgits! Think fast and manipulate blocks, springs, funnels, and other objects to bring the Fidgits home safely. Make your own music! Customize a virtual string instrument to play a song you write. Choose from three different instrument sounds. Then add a funky beat and play it back.what’s Fidgit?
what’s String Thing?

Students need to create accounts but they just have to come up with a screen name and password…no email address required.
CERNland is a quality science site created by Cern Labs (maker of the Large Hadron Collider) to share with your students. No prior knowledge of physics is required for students to enjoy the site. However they will certainly walk away with some. The site is available in several languages and From the site “With a range of games, multimedia applications and films CERNland is the virtual theme park developed to bring the excitement of CERN’s research to a young audience aged between 7 and 12. CERNland is designed to show children what we do at CERN and inspire them with some physics at the same time. Helpful Hint “Kids do not need any particle-physics expertise to enjoy CERNland but those who click on the information links will be better placed to answer the questions and improve their scores.” I am adding CERNland to my “Science” LiveBinder.
