New Citizen Scientists Project from @scistarter looking for students to participate in. #scichat #science4kids
I just received an email notifying me of the new project. Looks like an interesting one. Find out more below.
Project Merccuri  “Project MERCCURI is an investigation of how microbes found in buildings on Earth (in public buildings, stadiums, etc) compare to those on board the biggest building ever built in space – the International Space Station (ISS).
The project provides an opportunity for YOU— citizen scientists and student scientists —to participate in the research by using kits we will send you to collect microbes from surface areas in buildings or even your own cell phone or shoes.” Cost $0
Learn more about SciStarter below. (from a previous post)
SciStarter Awesome website for Citizen Scientists…including kids!
Students can become “citizen scientists” by taking part and contributing to science projects led by real scientists.
Choose project by activity or topic. Requirements and eligibility are listed for each project. Free registration is required to find more details on projects. This can be done by the teacher.
EXCELLENT resource! Students will love knowing that their input/research makes a difference.

FANTABULOUS!!! Content Trailers
#elemchat #spedchat #4thchat #5thchat #1stchat #scichat  #sscghat
Hook your students with these! Amazing collection of “Content Trailers” for a variety of grades and subjects. Specials will love these too!
Content Trailers are “ short, 2- to 3-minute, media-rich experiences from which a point of inquiry can begin.  Providing students with the images and sounds that can be attached to the textual information that they will be exploring can provide a profound shift in the way learning is engaged. Content Trailers can be one tool to help the process of inquiry begin.”
Think of them as short (spectacular) videos to introduce a subject.
I watched a few and was extremely impressed. The quality of the trailers was superb. Music was varied and Images were top notch. Fantastic tools to hook students into lessons.
Trailers are organized by Grade (K-12), as well as the subjects listed below.

I checked out the one for U.S. Presidents and was shocked to see a content trailer for every single president.
So of course I added it to  U.S. Presidents for Kids
So I moved on to the poetry section and added that one to  Kool Kids Write Poetry.
Places Around the World is now included in  Countries for Kids.
I don’t mean to gush but “Content Trailers” are AWESOME!  I have never seen a collection like this. Created by WBR Technology Dept.

Very cool! #scichat

jtotheizzoe:

Dinosaurs vs. People

Just stumbled upon a fantastic gallery on WIkipedia of illustrated size comparisons between humans and dinosaurs. So many tiny dino-chickens!

Check them all out here. Lots of them look like the blue waving guy is about to get chomped Jurassic Park “lawyer in the bathroom” style, but that’s probably pretty accurate.
