Story Bee lets you “listen to professional storytellers from across the country as they spin their wonderful tales. Just click on your age group, and you’ll find a list of story titles. Click on any title, and the story will play.”
 #elemchat #spedchat #literacy #audiostories #storytelling
“It’s all free, thanks to the generous storytellers who want to share the spirit and joy of storytelling with you. So sit back, get comfortable, and get ready to go around the world, through time, inside the heart, and above the clouds.”
***I used this last year and my students really liked listening to the stories while they worked on their art projects. I highly recommend Story Bee! Love that it covers ages 4 to 18. Something for everyone. Teachers will enjoy the stories too. I certainly did.

Smories are stories written by adults and read by children.  The text goes along the top of the page and may be a little small, but the kids reading the stories are very engaging.  I know my reading group will love these.  I certainly did.  There are no pictures, just the charming face of the young reader.  Kids love other kids and always benefit from someone reading to them.  Make sure to view full screen.
I record my students during reading using Aviary and they quite like it.  It really lets them shine!  Hopefully listening to Smories will spur them on to read better.

1001 Stories from The Story Museum features a great collection of inspirational/folk tales from around the world.
#elemchat #spedchat
The stories include audio and text that could be printed out for each student as they listen. Many of the stories also include printable story maps. You can search by theme, age of listener, or country of origin. Great for  listening center or a quiet time in the classroom.
Not that I’m counting but there are only 100+ stories available that I could see. Not 1001…nonetheless great site. Hopefully more are coming because students will really enjoy these stories.

Check out the rest of the The Story Museum too.

I am excited to add Dust Echoes to my “Awesome Audio Stories and more” binder.
The Australian site Dust Echoes is a fabulous ”series of twelve beautifully animated dreamtime stories from Central Arnhem Land, telling stories of love, loyalty, duty to country and aboriginal custom and law.”
The animation, characters, music and storytellers engage the viewers thoroughly. This is truly a beautiful collection. You can view the movies directly or go through an interactive to get to them. There is also a study guide available to teachers for each of the 12 stories.

Another site to added to my Awesome Audio Stories LiveBinder.
Mrs. P.com is an awesome site that young kids will love. It is “an award-winning FREE interactive digital storybook destination. Classic children’s stories brought to life by TV star Kathy Kinney as Mrs. P.” Mrs. P. is a lovely lady in a rocking chair who reads with wonderful expression helping students to understand the story.
There are many ways to customize this interactive reading experience. Kids can listen to Mrs. P. read stories with or without text.
See the screenshot below for more customizations.

I’m sure that I must have mentioned that this site is free!

New addition to my Awesome Audio Stories binder.
Story Cove is a nice site for listening to online folktales from Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and Australia. The folktales can be viewed either as a movie or as just an audio story. There is no text unless you buy their books which they sell online. Nonetheless the stories can be used as a listening activity.  The audio for this site is very engaging and animated.
Another plus to Story Cove is that they have a great collection of lesson plans and printables to go along with the stories that are also free. “Lesson Plans extend the story elements to explore the original story with projects and activities that require interaction with adults or other members of the family away from the PC.”
Sign-up is required, free, and easy.

KOL Jr. Stories - Online Picture Books Read Aloud

This is a really nice collection of books, with audio and text that younger students will love. Many of the characters will be familiar to them while others will be new introductions. Fantastic illustrations accompany each book.

I have added KOL Jr. Stories to my Awesome Audio Stories and more LiveBinder.

Hands down EFL Classroom 2.0 has the best compilation of “Stories for the Classroom” that I have ever seen. This was a very pleasant discovery today.
The stories contain audio, text, and pictures. Some are even animated. They play full screen and are very student friendly. All of them would be great for reading/listening centers. Kids will love these stories and want to read them over and over again.
The stories are categorized by level as well as some genres.

Great new addition to my “Awesome Audio Stories” LiveBinder.
Story Bee is a FANTASTIC site for listening to stories told by professional storytellers. Students will love listening to these stories because the storytellers really bring the stories to life. Stories are divided into 4 categories by age levels, 4-9, 10-12, 13-14, and 15-18.
I can’t wait to share a few of these during my art classes. These stories are so good that I’m sure there will be less behavior problems in the class because my wonderful students will be listening to the story while they work on their art project. :-)

Screenshot
I listened to “Boy and Angel’s First Date” by Buck P. Creacy (for ages 15-18)  while I wrote this post. Thoroughly entertaining!

Story Time for Me offers free, high quality storybooks for young children. Each book contains engaging artwork, audio and text. The words are highlighted as the text is read. Some of the pages contain animation too.
There are three series to explore: Fern the Fox, Ben the Mouse, and Flame the Dragon. There are many titles to choose from in each series.
There are all sorts of user controls at the bottom of the page that are very student friendly. They include automatic/manual page control, start/stop animation on page, highlight text and more.
This is a quality site to help young emergent readers.

Zinger Tales from the Book Hive has a great collection of stories told by great story tellers. These are really fun to listen to. The storytellers have a fabulous way of engaging their audience (our students).

Stories are provided in RealPlayer format, which requires the free RealPlayer plug-in.

Read On, compiled by Beenleigh State School located in Australia, is a massive resource for audio stories. They have collected over 200 links to online audio stories. No downloads necessary as far as I could tell. Each story is easily accessed with one or two clicks. The organization of the site is wonderful.  Grade levels are given for each story making it easy to choose a story for your class.
I really liked this site very much. Sometimes in art we listen to music while we work but sometimes a story works well too.
I am adding it to my “Audio Stories” LiveBinder.
