FANTABULOUS!!! Content Trailers
#elemchat #spedchat #4thchat #5thchat #1stchat #scichat #sscghat
Hook your students with these! Amazing collection of “Content Trailers” for a variety of grades and subjects. Specials will love these too!
Content Trailers are “ short, 2- to 3-minute, media-rich experiences from which a point of inquiry can begin. Providing students with the images and sounds that can be attached to the textual information that they will be exploring can provide a profound shift in the way learning is engaged. Content Trailers can be one tool to help the process of inquiry begin.”
Think of them as short (spectacular) videos to introduce a subject.
I watched a few and was extremely impressed. The quality of the trailers was superb. Music was varied and Images were top notch. Fantastic tools to hook students into lessons.
Trailers are organized by Grade (K-12), as well as the subjects listed below.
I checked out the one for U.S. Presidents and was shocked to see a content trailer for every single president.
So of course I added it to
U.S. Presidents for Kids
So I moved on to the poetry section and added that one to
Kool Kids Write Poetry.
Places Around the World is now included in
Countries for Kids.
I don’t mean to gush but “Content Trailers” are AWESOME! I have never seen a collection like this. Created by WBR Technology Dept.
Neat writing website for high school students.

Write On! for KidsPrimary Access: Great site featuring student friendly tools for digital storytelling. (FREE!)
#edtech #digitalstorytelling
Included in “Write On! Kids” LiveBinder. Students will love using the tools from Primary Access to create their stories.
*You do need to make a quick account but everything is free.
From the site: PrimaryAccess is a suite of free online tools that allows students and teachers to use primary source documents to complete meaningful and compelling learning activities with digital movies, storyboards, rebus stories and other online tools.
They have three tools for students to use…
- MovieMaker: enables you to combine text, audio and images into compelling personal narratives and digital stories, with a simple movie-making process. Steps like scripting, recording and saving are entirely Web-based—no software to install—and the movies are easy to retrieve and share.
- StoryBoard: enables you to create comic strips and slideshows by combining images, thought bubbles, props and actors. All steps are entirely Web-based—no software to install—and the comics are easy to publish and share.
- Rebus: makes it easy to create a Rebus using primary source documents. A Rebus (Latin for ’by things”) is a written story that uses pictures as parts of the text. PrimaryAccess Rebus encourages students to explore primary sources by creating crops of those sources and using them to tell a story.

New addition to Write On! 4 Kids Livebinder
This looks like a great creative writing tool. You can register your class for free and create your own class/school competitions. Students write chapters based on a story starter you provide and the class votes on which one to add to the book. I love that the authors of the chapters are anonymous during the voting process.
Free and ($39) premium accounts are available.
From BoomWriter: “BoomWriter is a supremely engaging creative writing website that has students reading, writing and assessing content in ways they’ve never done before!”
- The teacher selects or produces his or her own story start, and the students let their imagination and writing skills take over.
- One chapter at a time, the students write, read, and then vote on the submissions they like the most. The winning chapter is then added to the story and the process continues.
- The teacher determines the total number of chapters to be completed, and when the competition is over a new book is ready to be published.
Do NOT miss this one! Make Beliefs Printables are a teacher’s dream.
#literacy #sschat
Writing/thinking prompts that are engaging, current, topical, and just plain awesome! And you know what? They are FREE!
From Bill Zimmerman the creator: “The printables encourage writing and thinking in a quick and fun way. A student’s efforts to complete the printable can then become the first step in writing longer essays, poems or stories on the same subject.”
These would be great for substitutes too! So I’m adding them to
Super Sites for Subs. Of course you can also find them in my Classroom Printables and Cool Comic Creators binders.
